Why, Exactly, is Antivirus So Important?

Why, Exactly, is Antivirus So Important?

We’ve been known to discuss business security from time to time, as it’s a pretty important concept for businesses and personal users to appreciate. Today, we wanted to discuss one specific element of cybersecurity that all businesses should have in place: antivirus.

What is Antivirus?

Every computing device you’ve ever used has had some kind of antivirus software installed, whether it’s a desktop workstation, a laptop, or even mobile devices. All antivirus does is seek out, identify, and remove various forms of malware—from adware all the way to spyware, trojan horses, and worms.

Computer networks are under a constant barrage of threats and breach attempts, any one of which could spell disaster. Consider that there are at least 50,000 new malware strains created every day…you need everything you can have in your corner to protect you, and antivirus is a key part of this protection.

What Does Antivirus Do?

All antivirus effectively works the same way. By scanning your files and directories for any malicious code or signs of known malware, your antivirus can identify issues and either quarantine or remove the offensive code to remove the threat. The majority of antivirus software allows you to manually scan files or entire folders, or schedule it to take place on a regular basis, all so your security remains up-to-date.

What Sets Business Antivirus Apart from Personal Antivirus?

The primary difference between personal and professional antivirus is effectively one of scale, in that a business will require more coverage on a larger total of devices. A personal antivirus protects the device it is installed on, while a business’ enterprise antivirus touches all of a network’s endpoints, being installed at the server level.

Is Your Business Properly Protected?

You need to be prepared to prevent malware from infiltrating your business’ network infrastructure. The more vulnerabilities present there, the more likely you are to suffer some kind of cybersecurity incident, scam, or public embarrassment.

Here at PC PLACE, we’ve committed to security-first policies to help keep our clients safe as we promote their productivity. Find out what we can do for you by calling (909) 435-4220 and starting a conversation with our team.
